The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) will be launching a selection exercise in April to recruit 128 Recorders. Recorders deal with cases within a mid-range of complexity and legal difficulty across the criminal, family, and civil jurisdictions.
The seminar
The Judicial Office is organising a pre-application seminar that will take place online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 15th April 2026 (5-6:15pm).
The seminar aims to help applicants be better prepared to make an application and to receive up-to-date guidance and advice on the JAC’s selection process. As well as the JAC, you will also hear from current Circuit Judges and Recorders.
Who should attend?
Applications are invited from solicitors, barristers, and Fellows of CILEX in England and Wales with at least 7 years post qualification legal experience. In addition, candidates should be able to offer a reasonable length of service, usually of 4 years, before the statutory retirement age of 75.
Applications are particularly welcome from under-represented groups (women, ethnic minority candidates, disabled candidates).
