Supporting Black Judges in England & Wales

Championing Diversity in the Judiciary
Our aims
The Association aims to be a unifying and primary voice of Black Court Judges, Tribunal Judges and Coroners holding office in the jurisdiction of England and Wales.
The association is intended to facilitate greater engagement of Black Judges within the judiciary and the Courts and Tribunals in which they sit and promote equality of access, retention and progression, including in the appointment process.

Increase understanding of the experiences of Black Judges, promote equity and inclusion and challenge discrimination.

Provide opportunities for Black Judges and allies to have their voices heard, to inform and to influence best practice with stakeholders and relevant bodies.

Encourage members to share their experiences and expertise to support Black legal professionals aspiring to enter the judiciary, and signpost initiatives available from Judicial Diversity Forum partners.

Engage with other committees and bodies involved in promoting judicial diversity, including the Judicial Diversity Committee of the Judges’ Council, the Judicial College, the Judicial Appointments Commission and the Judicial Diversity Forum.

Provide information, career, and welfare-enhancing events and networking opportunities for members.
Membership
The Association is open to all salaried and fee-paid judges, including retired judges
from any circuit or region of the UK. While primarily founded to support the UK’s Black Judges, membership is also open to allies who support these aims.
